Shrubs

Shrubs constitute an important element of vegetation and natural landscapes. They often grow mixed with climbing plants. The Lyon Botanical Garden’s fruticetum gathers more than 600 shrubs and climbing species from Europe, Asia, North America and North Africa.

The species are gathered by families and genera. The principal collections are: Clematis, Viburnum, Berberis, Corylopsis, Euonymus, Syringa, Deutzia, Philadelphus, Camellia, Ilex, Spiraea, Weigelia, Ribes, Ligustrum, Hydrangea, Cornus…

The best period for flowerings is from March to June, but Viburnum, Euonymus, Celastrus or Corylopsis parade beautiful colours or decorative berries in autumn. Some honeysuckle, jasmines, Viburnum or Chimonanthus flower in the heart of winter.
