Fern-patch and Mediterranean plants

Vinca difformis
Pourr.

Formerly the medicinal school, this sector became the fern-patch, the trees development having made us change this part of the garden. The lack of light is beneficial for a great number of shade plants. The choice was almost in favour of undergrowth species such as Symphytum bulbosum, Veronica montana, Iris foetidissima…
Water proximity from a small stream offers us the very rare Moroccan Euphorbia nereidum.

The main interest of this sector is the collection of Lyon’s climate resistant ferns: Woodwardia orientalis, Dryopteris pallida, Onoclea sensibilis… about 50 taxons coming from different places.

Euphorbia characias
L.

Mediterranean plants occupy the sunny part of this west-facing bed: Cistus, Olea europaea (olive tree), Myrtus communis subsp microphylla, Olearia, Vitex agnus-castus, Euphorbia characias and many plants from maquis and sparse vegetation.
